Tesla wrap PNG and USB checklist
Check the file type, dimensions, size, filename and USB folder before importing. Test one compatible image before building a larger collection.
Test one vehicle-matched image first. A large collection from mixed sources makes it harder to distinguish a bad file from a transfer problem.
Inspect the exported file
| Check | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Type | Actual PNG data. |
| Dimensions | 512×512 to 1024×1024; preserve the template's native size. |
| Size | No more than 1 MB. |
| Name | Up to 30 characters: letters, numbers, underscores, dashes or spaces. |
A short name such as my-blue-01.png leaves room for the extension. Keep a backup before optimizing. Renaming WebP to PNG does not convert it; cropping the layout to reduce file size can destroy the panel mapping.
Prepare the USB route
Place PNG files directly inside a root-level Wraps folder. Tesla lists exFAT, FAT32, MS-DOS FAT, ext3 and ext4, but not NTFS. Do not mix in map or firmware update files. On the vehicle, open Toybox → Paint Shop → Wraps.
Formatting erases the drive. Back up its contents and verify the selected device. A separate empty drive is a safer test than one containing your only copy of important files.
Expand a working collection gradually
Add designs one at a time after the first successful import. Tesla currently allows up to ten mobile files and ten USB files separately. Keep local copies before removing old designs.
